In the street performances by four emerging choreographers at Guelph’s historic St. George’s Square. Ideas and bodiesbounce off old stone and new concrete to create a community-engaging spectacle.
This piece is a look into the lives of two individuals who are or were in love. The relationship can be old or new; either way, something has changed in each individual, altering the dynamic of the relationship. What once was functional is no longer. What was harmonious has become laborious. What causes a love to convolute is never clear; the only evidence is that something is not quite right, not quite functioning, not quite there anymore.
Alter & Define focuses on the impressions we leave on others and our ability to impact the people and places around us. Alter & Define also shows how one small moment in time has the ability to alter our course and define the landscape of our lives. Is it possible to create an inspiring moment that can be captured and carried with us? Can we change the way we view the spaces that we pass through everyday and shed a different light on a familiar stomping ground?
The Calculated Risk Project [Remix] transfers a women’s duet to two men, exploring the different genders’ perceptions of interdependence, vulnerability, and trust with explosive energy, intimacy, and humour. Seeking harmony in dissonance, the work’s two performers unabashedly confront each other with a rough-and-ready physicality that marries tenderness and threat. There are no holds barred, no taboos, no pleasantries—just raw physical dialogue. This is a story of compromise, negotiation, and perseverance.
This piece explores physical dynamics, musicality, and the number three. The genre of movement is derived from ballet, modern, and hip-hop, and the dancers explore this movement intertwined with the qualities of waving and isolating. In science, religion, and philosophy, three is an integral number. Even in DNA, if there is any change in the codon triplets, the entire sequence is transformed. The music for I II is composed by DJ eDit and is unpredictable, which is reflected through the movement of the dancers.
